DIALOGUES
The Imagine Center fosters dialogue platforms that openly address and work through conflict: building trust and collaboration across conflict and ideological divides. We create spaces where participants can critically engage the past, present, and future of conflict, transforming relationships and envisioning shared futures.
Our methodology combines analytic problem-solving, narrative mediation, and reflective practice. Through structured yet open dialogue, participants examine the legacies and drivers of conflict to uncover new possibilities for cooperation and coexistence. Imagine has facilitated numerous dialogue processes among conflict-affected communities, including Armenian–Azerbaijani, Armenian–Turkish, Georgian–Abkhaz–South Ossetian, and previously Russian–Ukrainian and Syrian dialogues.
Beyond these community-based initiatives, Imagine also convenes peace practitioners from across disciplines, geographies, and phases of the peacebuilding spectrum. These professional convenings strengthen networks, deepen shared learning, and support narrative and systemic change across the broader peace process.
In practice, four intervention strategies can be distinguished: conflict prevention, conflict management, conflict resolution, and conflict transformation. Conflict prevention is focused on addressing problems before they escalate and turn violent. Conflict management refers to crisis intervention and mitigating an already violent conflict without resolving it. Conflict resolution addresses the deep-rooted causes of the conflict and hostility. Conflict transformation is a long-term measure and implies a deep transformation in societies and in their relationship to one another and to the conflict, laying the foundation for lasting coexistence.
Together, Imagine’s dialogues and convenings form a sustained effort to transform the way divided communities and practitioners engage with one another—building the trust, understanding, and collective capacity needed to envision and shape more connected futures.
