Call for Applications! South Caucasus School of Conflict Transformation & Multimedia Collaboration

The Imagine Center for Conflict Transformation invites journalists, analysts, artists, social scientists, and activists to apply to the South Caucasus School of Conflict Transformation and Multimedia Collaboration, 2021-2022. The Project will take place throughout the year and consists of a series of online workshops, in-person trainings held both in-country and abroad, lectures, dialogue, and the development of multimedia stories.

Phase 1:

The Project starts off with a series of online workshops for participants from all parts of the South Caucasus. The group will meet once per week in October and November of 2021 for lectures via the Zoom online platform. Prominent scholar-practitioners will cover a range of topics including Conflict Analysis & Resolution, Media & Conflict, Conflict & Gender, Memory Politics, and Nationalism in the context of conflicts in the South Caucasus and the Balkans.

Phase 2:

The participants of the online lectures will be then invited to apply to Phase 2 of the project. Participation in Phase 1 of the project does not guarantee admission to Phase 2.

Phase 2 is an 8-day-long intensive in-person Dialogue and Fieldwork in the Balkans. During the Fieldwork the participants will conduct a comparative study of another postcommunist conflict.

At the end of the Dialogue and Fieldwork in the Balkans, the participants will form working groups based on topical interests. They will be divided into research-oriented and multimedia-oriented teams.

Phase 3:

In the months following the Dialogue and Fieldwork, participants will collaborate with colleagues from across the South Caucasus to produce co-authored multimedia stories that will be published in the Caucasus Edition: Journal of Conflict Transformation at www.caucasusedition.net

Phase 4:

The participants of the 2021-2022 project and previous Schools of Conflict Transformation can apply for the Advanced School of Conflict Transformation to be held in Washington, DC, in the early Summer of 2022. The school will be conducted in collaboration with the Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego and Washington, D.C. area schools. The participants will meet with and learn from the leading professors at Conflict Resolution schools in the U.S., including the Carter School at George Mason University. The participants will also have networking opportunities visiting the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), meeting representatives of the US Department of State, and the representatives of the DC think tank and academic community.

Interested candidates should submit their CV, a motivation letter stating why you would like to participate in the project and samples of their previous works, if you have any to [email protected] before September 24, 2021.

Acceptance in the online lectures doesn’t guarantee participation in the in-person Dialogue.

The participants will be recruited based on their interest in the field of conflict transformation and openness for collaborating with colleagues from across the conflict-divide.
